4 Ways to Help Your Kids Grow

As a parent, we try to instill positive traits in our kids and help them grow. I spoke with four parents to see what positive things they have done in the past and it was quite interesting! I thought it might be encouraging to others if I shared a few of these ideas. Read on…

  • “I took the time to teach both of my daughters how to cook and sew. (It helped that they were interested.) Both are excellent cooks now and they sewed their own clothes in high school (which helped the budget tremendously).”

  • “I offered my children a check for $1,000 if they didn’t have a smoking habit by their 18th birthday. I figured if they didn’t have the habit by then, the chances of them obtaining the habit after that time were very slim. Out of five children, only one child did not get the check! They are in their 30s and 40s now and to this day, they are still non-smokers!”

  • “We traveled as much as we could with our kids. Even when we didn’t have much money to travel on, we’d still take little day trips as often as possible. The main purpose of this was to get the children out of the county, open their horizons, and show them there is a world out there!”

  • “My husband and I brought up our children as unique individuals. By this I mean, we didn’t live through them vicariously. We let them make their own decisions as to what they wanted to do and how they wanted to do it. (For example: even though my husband was athletic, he didn’t push sports on our son). We supported them in their decisions and looked forward to seeing what they could do with their dreams and their goals. We let the thrust of their lives be their own and they learned to never be afraid of making a decision.”

Are you gleaning some ideas from these? I hope so. If nothing else, maybe they are opening your mind to other ideas of your own!
